Welcome
We honor service, support veterans, and keep the Legion’s traditions alive in Alameda.
As part of the nation’s largest veterans service organization, Post 9 is committed to fellowship, advocacy, service, and leadership, values that have defined The American Legion for more than a century.
We meet inside the historic Alameda Veterans Memorial Building, built in 1929 to honor Alameda’s veterans, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s a fitting home for what we do.

Memorial Day. Veterans Day. Wreath-layings. The folded flag, the honor guard, the moment of silence. Post 9 leads these rites in Alameda every year, because how a community remembers is how a community teaches the next generation what service means.

Served at least one day of active duty since December 7, 1941?
Under the LEGION Act, that’s enough. If you served, or you’re currently serving, you’re almost certainly welcome at Post 9. All branches. Every era. Merchant Marine included.
